    So why is she here now at his bedside after a case gone bad? Why is she holding his hand and looking at him with so much intimacy in her eyes? Why is she calling him Anthony and caressing his cheek like she knows him? Really knows him?

    Lockwood is getting the distinct impression that there is something missing. Something big.

    They stand there for a long moment, just looking at each other. Finally Lucy can’t handle the silence anymore. She has spent too much time listening to the quiet in the last year and a half, and she’d rather break the forced peace than let the heaviness of the attack weigh her down. She remembers the way Norrie could barely speak to her without crying for days on end. The way her mother refused to acknowledge what happened and told her to “deal with it, you’re not the first girl it’s happened to”. She mostly remembers the silence, though.
