Summary
Doflamingo starts before he can say anything, “do you want me to leave?”
Crocodile’s defenses crumble when Doflamingo places a hand on his knee, tracing circles over his slacks.
“I can’t possibly leave when you’re looking at me like that.”
The words are mumbled into the space around them, Doflamingo’s palm sliding up. Crocodile tries to breathe regularly, hardly making a move because he knows if he does, then it’ll all be over.

Predictably, Baby 5 is nowhere in sight. Despite Doflamingo's reassurance, Crocodile has his doubts that the bird's daughter will return after what he did.
And so he waits as the crimsons of late afternoon bruise the clouds with a cool-toned twilight, haloing the new moon like a black eye. The inhabitants of the Dressrosan palace busy themselves with arbitrary chaos, the aimless buzzing of a beehive missing its queen.
Crocodile is so used to the Family's antics that he doesn’t even think much of the gunshot. It's only when it's long past sunset and Doflamingo remains conspicuously absent that he realizes its lack of an echo means something might have been actually hit.
Or more concerningly, someone.
