    Summary

James Norrington leaves the Isla Cruces on the Black Pearl instead of running off with Davy Jones' heart. He watches Elizabeth kiss Jack Sparrow before the kraken takes down the Black Pearl, then finds himself in Tia Dalma's hut with the rest of the crew.

This certainly explained Elizabeth’s sullen demeanor, as well as Sparrow’s selfless act. He thought it had seemed out of character for the pirate to sacrifice himself for everyone else. It all made sense now. Though, he still suspected Elizabeth had enjoyed the kiss at least a little bit.

“The kraken wasn’t after us,” Elizabeth continued, facing James again, “and it wasn’t after the ship. Jones sent that thing for Jack, and we all knew it. I did what had to be done.”

James glanced over at her. “You are full of surprises, Elizabeth,” he said, letting a bit of admiration seep into his words. “I certainly did not expect that. These pirates must be rubbing off on you.”

    Summary

Norrington must make a choice. Elizabeth had asked him to follow. Yet her survival is of the utmost importance. If he dies here, then he will die accomplished, having saved his last friend on this earth.

The thought should bring him relief. His sense of honor would be restored, Weatherby Swann’s memory venerated, Elizabeth saved and off to fix the world. So why does it make him so angry? Is death truly his final atonement?

He draws a breath. He makes his choice.

    Summary

Six-year-old James Norrington is forced to experience a battle between the Royal Navy led by his father, the admiral, and Captain Teague alongside his crew. It's not a great experience, especially when he almost drowns, and what salvation is to be had does not come from where he'd expect it.

A.k.a.: I've read Rob Kidd's 10th book that includes the Norringtons and I was so baffled by how awful a father Lawrence is in such little time that I had to write something about it.
