Levi is familiar with pain on an intimate level. Like an unwanted old friend always coming back to show its face, he finds himself hurting again and again, far more often than seems at all fair— not that justice has been too frequent of a concept throughout his life, in the first place.
When he first slips back to full consciousness, it takes a moment to find enough willpower to move. His body, animal thing that it is, begs to stay right where he is until the threat of agony moves on to find another victim.
Giving up isn’t an option. It never has been, and Levi forces his eyelids open just the same as he’s forced himself to stand up every time before.

In which Levi greatly resembles a skittish, bad-tempered, half-feral cat brought into someone's home, and Reader does pretty okay at dealing with that, somehow.
