Summary
Speaking of which, there was a reason why Gianna was idly milling about on the trading floor, gazing at but not truly seeing the beautiful vista in front of her. It was a sight she'd seen many times before and had now lost some of its novelty, but the truth was that the concern gnawing away inside of her was distracting her from appreciating the view as usual.
She'd received a message from Anaya asking to speak privately, giving the coordinates for where she wanted to meet. It wasn't completely out of the ordinary for the often tired, overworked detective to sometimes make spelling mistakes during their correspondence, but the frequency of the errors combined with the fact that there was something just a bit off about her wording caused an alarm bell to activate in the back of Gianna's mind.

The cat continued staring at her with a studious expression. Then, as if impatient about her inaction, it let free another meow much louder than before. The sound pierced the deathly silence, echoing off the walls and bouncing around the room.
On the other side of the warehouse door there was a shuffling, a low mumble of voices that made Kasumi's heart rate pick back up. Forget taking time to formulate a plan, she needed to get out of here now!

Instead of finishing her sentence, Shepard sat on the floor and emptied a shopping bag full of cat treats onto the carpet. The cat perked up immediately, keenly watching the delicious loot drop to the ground.
“Come 'ere, boy!” Shepard encouraged. The hungry feline wasted no time in jumping from Liara's lap and joining Shepard where she sat.

With the Reapers defeated, Shepard and Liara turn their attention to a smaller, less deadly creature.

If she were being honest, she missed it. Running errands for people, even though they were often dangerous, unreasonably requests, had scratched an itch in her brain and gave her a sense of fulfilment beyond her important task of saving the galaxy. Now that she had all the free time in the world and her entire future stretched out in front of her to do as she pleased, she found that she was getting twitchy for the satisfaction of a job well done.

Life post-Reapers lacks sidequests, leaving Shepard feeling bored. As a result, she's taken it upon herself to set and complete her own missions. Today's mission involves making sure Miranda has a sweet treat to break up the monotony of a long work day.

Both women were actually quite happy with the accidental turn of events. Neither of them had felt keen on catering to the elite and had agreed to do so simply because of Admiral Hackett's belief that the rich would clamour over themselves to outbid each other for the “prize” of a product built by Shepard. Shepard's name was valuable, and with it, any product associated with her was bound to bring in big credits.
Now, they'd decided to do things their own way.

Liara paused, as if running through a series of valid counterarguments in her head, searching for a persuasive line of logic to justify remaining on the ship to continue her work. Shepard knew that under ordinary circumstances, Liara would be more willing to go along with the request. It was her sense of duty as the most powerful information wielder in the galaxy that compelled her to push herself to the limit.
Something in Liara's expression softened.
“Very well, I'll come with you.”

Noticing that Liara has trouble taking breaks from her work, Shepard comes up with a plan to get the ship's resident Shadow Broker away from her terminals for a relaxing afternoon on the Citadel.

By Hackett's definition, it was an easy in-and-out-again mission. Really, any Alliance team could've done the job. The reason Hackett had sent Shepard was, in his own words, that she was the only member of the Alliance in the vicinity to get the situation under control before word spread that humanity had started selling red sand to turian colonies in the fringes of Council Space.
Best to nip the problem in the bud before it could become a diplomatic incident, Hackett had said. Shepard cursed those words under her breath as she stared at the mounds of rubble laying where the exit from the mine was just stood.

His attentive and caring nature was just one of many reasons she adored the krogan and was grateful she didn't permanently break things off with him on Illium.

In truth, Shepard knew there would always be a possibility that she would run into Samara on one of their separate, independent missions one day. Though they were in a relationship and met in person as often as their duties allowed it, Shepard was still part of the Alliance, and Samara had made it clear that although the war was over, the galaxy still needed what remained of the justicars to root out injustice. Their work took them to different locations, but if the war had taught Shepard anything it was that sometimes old friends could show up in unexpected places.

For a moment, Tali was hit by a wave of just how surreal this situation was to her. Her people, with the help of the geth, had spent so much time, dedicated so much effort towards getting their immune systems to the point where they could even begin to contemplate entering Rannoch's waters like this. There were going to be celebrations for weeks at this incredible achievement. Yet now, as she was standing here uncomfortably in the water that could only be described as lukewarm at best, she humorously wondered whether the effort had been worth it.

Kahlee couldn't help but smile. Jack may have arrived at Grissom Academy a week ago with an aloof, brazen attitude that certainly wouldn't be sustainable in the long term, but it felt as though this wouldn't remain the case for much longer after all. Kahlee wasn't asking Jack to mould herself into the image of a perfect citizen – she knew that it wouldn't be fair to the woman, nor would it be a good idea to try to change Jack's teaching style entirely now that her students had warmed up to her – but it was clear to Kahlee that Jack would need some guidance, especially when it came to getting along with other staff and respecting authority while at the academy. Fortunately, it seemed that Jack had just taken the first few steps on her path to achieving a more mature version of herself.

Perhaps part of the reason why she had decided to seek out Samara was precisely that. The justicar did not pry. She had sworn an oath to Shepard that allowed Shepard's orders to override her code and she did not ask questions that would compel her to take action against anybody on the crew once her oath was complete. Kasumi wasn't sure whether the justicar's code would judge any of her past exploits as unjust and she didn't wish to find out, she just knew she was suddenly feeling drawn to Samara's tranquil aura. It was what she needed right now, to have a conversation with somebody so calm, who would not try to pry beyond what Kasumi was willing to reveal.

It made her look warm; inviting, almost as if she could stay, fully contented, laying close to Shepard like this for the rest of her days and call herself at home. Almost as if she could lean forward, drawn to the light on her bondmate's skin and kiss her gently, focused on nothing but the heat between themselves and the crackles of burning firewood.
