Summary
'An unadorned dwarf is not to be trusted,' he said quietly. 'They're secretive: a closed book. People have made allowances because you're not, technically, a dwarf, but since you're staying...'
---
Bilbo learns that there is more to jewellery in a dwarf's eyes than you might think.

Summary
“It’s got such a presence to it, even from a distance,” Bilbo says softly, and there’s a general murmur of awed agreement from the others. “Why, in all my fifty years, I never thought I’d see such a thing, and we haven’t even arrived yet!”
Thorin’s sword hits the ground with a clatter, and Balin chokes on his pipe.
The hobbit doesn’t look at Thorin, too busy thumping Balin on the back. Once the dwarf seems able to breathe again, he looks up, to find thirteen wide pairs of eyes fixed on him.
“What?” he says defensively, though he’s not sure what he’s defending.
“You’re how old?” Kíli squeaks.
Bilbo frowns at the young dwarf. “I’m fifty years old. Well, fifty-one, come springtime. Though it is not very polite to ask someone their age so bluntly,” he tells him primly.
Fíli makes a choked sound, and Nori lets out a vicious string of swears in Khuzdul.

Summary
The journey to Erebor was a grueling affair, marked by blisters, rain, and the constant threat of being eaten. But for Bilbo Baggins, the greatest challenge wasn't the Orcs, it was the sheer logistical nightmare of being a Hobbit in a company of Dwarves who knew absolutely nothing about Hobbit physiology.
Most folk in Middle-earth knew that Hobbits had large, hairy feet. Some knew they had a penchant for seven meals a day. But very few knew about the ears, and almost no one outside the Shire knew about the tails.

Summary
The arrival of Princess Dís was meant to be an affair of state, a somber, regal procession marking the restoration of the Line of Durin. Dís had spent years in the Blue Mountains maintaining the dignity of a royal house in exile, and she expected to find her brother, Thorin, surrounded by the high lords and wealthy merchants who had surely flocked to his side once the gold was reclaimed.
She knew the names of the "loyal few": Balin, Dwalin, and Gloin. She knew her sons, Fíli and Kíli, were safe. The rest, she assumed, were soldiers and nobility.
She was not prepared for the reality of Erebor.
