Not intentionally. More… admiring a skill you have that I lack.Caleb is not disappointed. He’s not disappointed when they meet and The Shadowhand has the same casual fake flirty tone as his text. He’s not disappointed when they end up filming together, his feelings most definitely not returned. Caleb can live with the heat of his fixation on the other man as they, somehow, become friends beyond their work. He can handle himself just fine.
It doesn’t matter that The Shadowhand is gorgeous and brilliant besides. He likes Caleb well enough and there could be hope, if Caleb wasn’t such a fucking mess. They can be friends, and coworkers of a strange sort. It’s fine.

Caleb Widowgast is the only student to show up to Essek's study hours. Caleb...is not enrolled in the class or the program, but Essek has to be here anyway and Caleb has the book and is determined to learn.
Also he brings Essek coffee every single time and it's never the same but always delicious so Essek doesn't mind explaining the basics or going over concepts between lesson planning in exchange.

He catches a glimpse of blue and white, the flicker of long dark hair, and he should ignore it, because he’s had a shadow his whole life; his sister’s presence is an afterthought, like the warm pressure of his armor, or a blanket draped over his shoulder. She’s like the daggers against his waist. They’re always there. Vex probably stepped out of the tavern to get some air, just like him. Vax doesn’t have to think about it.
But this time, he does.

Adelina Colfer sized up the crowd at the Dancing Deer with a practiced eye as she took a gulp of ale to quench her parched throat. The bard had already told two stories to the packed common room, and had earned more than enough coin to stop for the night if she wished. Still, she hated to leave it at just two stories. Boots came in a pair, and socks, and pants, but she felt stories were best told in threes or not at all. Her audience, patrons driven to seek shelter during the snowstorm outside still looked attentive, and it was still early enough in the evening that no one was yet terribly drunk or looked like they were about to fall asleep. But what story to tell?
“Has anyone here heard the tale of the amazing technicolor gravecoat?” Adelina asked, her voice carrying all the way to the back of the room.

Humans can’t see in the dark. They see well in sunlight, however, and their eyes are exceptional for distinguishing color and depth. Drow can see at night, but more importantly, they can see in complete darkness as their eyes have accustomed to tracking the invisible heat radiating off objects and living flesh.
There is a series of unfortunate complications to co-existing with a human arising from these facts.
