His hand hesitates over the door handle. Scott shouldn’t have come here, he knows. All of it would be so much easier if he pushed him away. But somehow, he finds himself turning the handle anyway, opening the door to where he knows the very source of his heartache lies.
Jimmy waits for him, like he always does, bright and welcoming. So, Scott puts on a smile and pretends he doesn't remember that they were in love: in another world.

He just had . . . a hunch. And he really didn’t want to deal with the teasing that would come with the admission that yes, Jonathan Sims, famed paranormal skepticist, had had an encounter someone might even call “spooky.”

“Yeah?” I peek my head up, wiping nonexistent dust off my pants. The storage compartment was almost completely sterile, but I needed something to do with my hands.
“All okay, question?” There’s a slight quiver in the notes of his voice that I’ve come to recognize as hesitance.
“Of course, buddy.” I laugh disbelievingly, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Ryland finds Yao’s gun and he is perfectly normal about it, thank you very much. He’s only been stuck in the same environment eating the same meals everyday for a year now. He’s fine.

Stratt’s words echo in Ryland’s head. He is huddled on top of a building surrounded by satellite dishes, curling up as small as he can make himself, legs pulled up to his chest, arms slung around them, head buried in his knees. He must look pretty pathetic but no one will see him up here and even if they did, he’s kind of over it. They just asked him to die, he deserves a bit of a mental breakdown, thank you very much.
