Summary
Mike Wheeler is possibly the most boring high schooler in Hawkins.
That is, until he’s partnered with the school’s own urban legend, Will “Zombie Boy” Byers, on a science project. The two form a quick friendship, but Mike’s life turns upside down when he mistakenly discovers monsters causing the series of murders around Hawkins, and with it, Will’s biggest secret.
Soon enough, Mike finds himself tangled up in Will’s family drama, which involves being constantly on the run from the government, these things called demogorgons and — oh yeah — the family’s top-secret knowledge on the zombie apocalypse slowly taking over Hawkins.
And Mike would go to the ends of the Earth — or rather, as far as the lockdown in Hawkins would allow him — to ensure safety for his new friend. He just wishes that didn't involve falling madly, deeply, stupidly in love first.

Will watched as a lightbulb went off in Mike's head, and he exclaimed, “We should tell my family that we’re dating!”
“But we’re not—” Will sighed, knowing once Mike gets an idea in his head, he can’t talk him out of it.
“Yeah, obviously,” Mike said, “Haven't you ever read a romance novel? We fake it.”
Or: the one in which college roommates Mike and Will pretend to date. We all know where this is going.
