Summary
When Chase and Deacon find a mysterious book at the museum library, they assume it has something to do with Ex Libris. What they are not prepared for, however, are more mysteries than they can count—the circumstances surrounding the death of a kidnapped princess, Buddy’s adamant refusal to tell them anything about the story, and, strangest of all, some familiar faces… inside the pages of the book.
NOTES:
⚘ This fanfiction was written between Episode 41 and the Season 1/2 hiatus. Lore was incorporated as it was revealed in canon, however I also ensured the story stayed consistent.
⚘ KAPT revolves around the assumption that Buddy has been working for Ex Libris and going into books for the majority of his life. The plot was not created when there was anything in canon to prove differently.
⚘ The first chapter is somewhat disjointed from the remainder of the fic in terms of genre. The genre is Historical Fantasy.
⚘ All twelve keys are included in this fic with what we know of them from Season One.

“Look, let’s just keep going, alright?” Kieran placated. “I know a shortcut through these mountains that will leave any chi-blockers way behind us.”
“A shortcut?” Lauren asked as they began to walk again.
Kieran couldn’t hold back a grin as he recalled an old folk song he’d heard long ago about this particular pass. He held his tongue, though, deciding not to subject Lauren to his singing voice this early in their partnership.

dark, so so dark(low-key based on @chocolate_water saying "damn right he will, painting "I love you" with trembling, broken hands on the ice-slick street using his own blood as he dies and since the last sense to go before you poof is hearing his final memory is lauren screaming "*why didn't you just kill me on that night?*"" in ref to kikis death)

Summary
In the dirty streets of Ardhalis City, criminals run rampant as the police force slowly begins to diminish in power. Ever since the infamous Allendale Train Station Tragedy, the chemical air grew thick and it soon came up to bounty hunters like Lauren Sinclair to catch the thieves, and for students like Kym Ladell to dream up a better future.
Kym Ladell was the founding member of the archery club, just waiting for something to explode as tension began to rapidly rise in the toxic air. William Hawkes was the student council president, feuding with Kym and desperately trying to maintain his perfect persona. Lauren Sinclair wanted justice and peace, undertaking the responsibility of a bounty hunter underneath her day job as an officer. And Kieran White was a graduated chemist working for Phantom Scientific, but his own hunter finds seemed to prove that his day job was becoming far more sinister.
Four separate lives seem to go their separate ways, hoping to make a deal with god to end their common suffering. The Allendale Train Station Tragedy had put everyone on edge, but what would happen when humanity fell, and these four were forced to watch the world end?
