Summary
The thing about realizing you are in love with your best friend, Jim discovers, is that it doesn't happen all at once, or when you least expect it, or any of those other clichés. It doesn't smack you upside the head with sudden, gasping clarity. It doesn't arrive in your brain like a message in your padd inbox. There is no helpful ding.
He's always thought, when he fell in love – if he fell in love – that something would suddenly shift, the world would tilt on its axis, and there, there it would be, written in neon lighting across the viewscreen of the Enterprise: You Are In Love.
It doesn't go that way.
Jim learns the hard way: love hurts.

So this fic is complicated and has its problems. But it hit all the angsty places and sometimes that is enough. I would have appreciated a longer resolution and more issues with fellow cadets, yet this story also suffered from the prompt it was trying to fill. But on the whole if I am looking for angsty goodness it does the job.

There were a lot things that Foggy regretted…like eating that last bag of chips and lying when Karen came looking for it.
He totally regretted that.
He also regretted falling in love with his best friend but hey, you win some, you lose some.
What Foggy really, really regretted was getting drunk and waking up in Matt’s bed with aches in places he’d never dreamed of having aches. Or to be honest he had dreamed about having aches in those places but after Matt started his serial dating Foggy had given up on those dreams which was pretty close minded of him but he was more than willing to file that as subsection two of regret number three…falling in love with Matt Murdock.

This is freaking amazing. It is angsty and sad and assumed unrequited love, and Matt is a horrid boyfriend who deserves to be broken up with, and foggy is all sad and then Nelson v Murdock happens and it is amazing and GAH I LOVE THIS THING SO MUCH!!!!!!!

I never realised how much I adored the idea of a Harriet Hayes/Maddie albie (genderswapped Matt). There is something about the idea of a trying to work out her sexuality Harriet.
