James looks back at him, taking him in properly, his gaze slow and judgemental. When he meets Regulus’ eyes again, the corner of his mouth is turned up in a cruel smirk.
“So, this is the perfect brother.” His eyes zero in on the mess around his bed. “I have to say, you’re not quite what I expected.”
Regulus feels a tell-tale flush rising up his neck, into his cheeks. He straightens imperiously. “I have to say, I wasn’t even aware of your existence up until moments ago. But nice to know that you’ve been thinking of me.”
OR:
The first time Regulus meets James, he hates him.
This keeps happening until, one day, he doesn’t.

One major mistake nearly costs them everything. Luckily, Sirius didn’t entirely leave his connections behind when he left the Black Family. There is still one person Sirius is in contact with, and it just so happens that that one person is the perfect solution to their problems.
