On July Fifth — though she learns that after — Heather wakes up in a hospital bed. She’s got a broken nose and two cracked ribs and she turns eighteen in a month and a half and her parents are dead. Steve Harrington is in the next bed, Robin Buckley from fourth period English curled into his side, and Steve’s watching her when Heather wakes up — Robin, that is. He only turns to Heather when she makes a groaning little noise, and his face is worse than she’s seen it before, because Steve gets his ass handed to him a lot for some reason — and maybe she knows the reason now — and he looks at her with those big cow eyes of his, smiles in a way that’s also a wince.

Summary
Mike doesn't know when he started caring why Steve and Eddie are friends now, but Dustin has made him curious. Eddie and Steve were enemies before, sort of. So why are they now best friends? They've just got to do a bit of surveillance to work this puzzle out. If Mike accidentally finds out he has feelings for his best friend along the way then... well, shit.
“At least I’m not using binoculars.” Mike shoots a derisive look over at Dustin. “Like we’re not in the middle of the high street, if they spot us how are you going to explain away those, huh?”
“Bird watching,” says Dustin. “My new hobby.”
