Regulus has always known he's destined to drown. He feels it deep in his chest, past his rib cage, nestled somewhere behind his organs. He feels it in his arm when his mother squeezes it a little harder than a mother should. He felt it, the water rising in his throat, when his brother slipped out the window and into the night. He often wonders if it'd be easier to just let himself sink.
He often wonders if he has a choice.
Regulus gets sent back to school with a mission from the Dark Lord himself— find the “beast in the chamber” and claim its fangs without killing it. But when a certain curly-haired bespectacled boy asks for a rather large favor, everything suddenly gets a lot more complicated.

His breath caught.
Peeking out of his t-shirt was color.
He squinted, pulling out his shirt and staring down. Covering his chest was a mixed puddle of bright yellows and oranges, black dots and brown slashes interrupting the blends of muted red. His eyes widened as the realization hit him. His eyes drifted further down to his torso and he grimaced at the sight of more mixed colors, dark greens and purples blending together as red lined the edges with swirls of blues dotted around the soulmark.
He paled and nauseous rolled through his stomach at the implications of what it meant.
After years of praying, begging to the gods to give him a soulmate, his prayers had been answered in the form of a nuclear scientist and an enderman hybrid with memory issues. ‘How fuckin’ convienent,’

Summary
The vampire seems to notice Tommy's distress and makes an effort to relax, smoothing his face. "You do not need to be afraid fledgling, no one will hurt you again"
"...Why not?" Tommy finds himself asking. He had no reason to trust this freak yet here he was, curious. He'd spent his life afraid and running, any words to the contrary were lies or too good to be true.
"Because I am your Sire, and I will make sure no one even looks at you the wrong way"
He sounds unsteady, like his words are both faith and news to himself at the same time.
Tommy just thinks. No one wanted him back at the orphanage. He would not be mourned nor missed. Maybe... maybe he had a chance at a new life.
Was that such a bad thing?
Or: Techno sees a dying fledging and goes "Is anyone gonna Sire that?" and doesn't wait for an answer

Tubbo has decided to simply announce this, halfway through Tommy’s spur-of-the-moment decision to make dinner for all of them. He splutters, putting the burner heat to low.
He takes a second to brace himself for the conversation he’s about to have. If the fact that Tubbo’s announced this out of nowhere shows anything, it’s that this is going to be a chaotic one.
