Summary
Tom knew he was special from the moment he realised just how different he was. This knowledge only cemented itself with time, his gifts only proving that he was meant for stronger, greater things.
Only it seemed he wasn’t the only one who was special. There was another boy, Harry, raven haired with brilliant green eyes who wielded the same magic Tom did.
It was a dangerous thing, to find another soul who looked at the world exactly as you did.

Summary
“Care to join me?” A low, silky voice called from beside Harry.
Harry turned, only to be met with an unsettlingly familiar figure. The boy was tall—at least a head taller than Harry—with smooth wavy black hair and sharp cheekbones to match. He was polished, incredibly so, yet Harry couldn’t quite place a name to him.
“Who are you?” Harry all but blurted at the boy.
The boy did something peculiar then, he stilled.
“Why, Harry, I’m almost offended,” the boy said conversationally, not looking offended in the slightest.Series

Summary
“You’re going to destroy yourself.”
I already have, Tom thought bitterly.
Tom waited for the cloying regret to seep into his marrow, for the inevitable press of cold nails against his ribcage, a solemn recognition of this truth, this destruction. Tom resented it, and yet he couldn’t bring himself to resent Harry.
Tom’s gaze remained an unwavering presence on Harry, unable to quell the truth which slipped from his tongue.
”I know.”
Tom had expected regret to feel cold.
Harry, however, felt like sunlight.

Summary
”Fascinating, isn’t it?” Tom said smoothly, announcing his presence from amidst the cover of towering shelves.
The reaction was instantaneous.
The boy jerked, turning sharply to meet Tom, the worn copy of Ancient Magics and their Archetypes clutched firmly within his grasp. His demeanor only sharpened further upon meeting Tom’s gaze.
”Curiosity is a rather destructive trait, Riddle, wouldn’t you agree?” The boy returned coldly, the venom in his words only matched by the look in his eyes.
And what viciousness it was.
One which Tom will have.
How long does a person hold when all that they are stands against them?

Summary
My name is Harry Potter.
What an unremarkable arrangement of letters.
The words sat serenely against the empty pages, five words, nineteen letters… And yet a furrow made its way onto Tom’s brow; it was a name far too ordinary for the boy.
Somehow, however implausibly, it had seemed this boy had found his way here, to Tom.
The fact sent a pleasant current of satisfaction through him, satisfaction which Tom hadn’t experienced since he was alive.
What exactly happens when the fixation is not from the mind, but of the soul?

Summary
”I expect you to treat this bloody borrow-and-beg like your own child, Potter,” he hissed as they made their way back to the castle. Harry—who was cradling the egg, a tiny light-brown thing with a spattering of dark speckles, carefully in his mittened hands—almost dropped it at the slip of Cockney that he hadn’t heard from Riddle since first year. “If it gets turned into an omelet by a Bludger while you’re playing your imbecilic sport, they will never find your body.”
”I’d worry less about me breaking it and more about you keeping it warm,” Harry retorted, holding the egg protectively away from Riddle’s glare—vibes that rancid couldn’t be good for a developing creature. “You couldn’t melt butter in those icy hands of yours, let alone support life.”
… When Harry came to retrieve the egg that evening, there was a toad tied to the top of it.
“RIDDLE!”
Harry and Tom get paired up for the ol’ “take care of an egg together” project for Care of Magical Creatures. Tom tries to put his own Slytherin spin on the assignment, and soon they’re both more invested than they’d anticipated.
Written for the Purge XL prompt “Daddy”.
