That’s what Imogen Temult did last year. Quite unexpectedly. And now, she has to show everyone it wasn’t a fluke.
The other thing about climbing is you fall... something Laudna is all too familiar with. But she’s someone who embraces the fall, sticks the landing, and tries to keep on going until that timer is up.
Whether they intend to or not, they bring out a brighter side in each other. And they’re kind of becoming each other's favorite thing about the sport.

Summary
Far away in Gelvaan, amid the Taloned Highlands of Marquet, the birth of Liliana and Relvin Temult’s baby girl is overshadowed by misfortune. The poor thing is thrust into the world under a flare of the unlucky moon, and covered in dead poppy flowers.
The dead blooms crumble away as she’s cleaned up and swaddled by the midwife, falling from her ears, in scattered patches all over her little body, a ring of them around her neck. These ones are the last to fall, and the impression of them remains like a scar, a band of poppies on her throat.

In all her life, Matilda has never found a single flower on herself, which must mean that she has no soulmate. Imogen is born in withered blossoms, which must mean that hers is already dead. Summary
The first time Imogen told Laudna about the storm it was, appropriately, storming.
Laudna’s eyes had been swallowed by a blackness darker than that of the night surrounding them, catching and reflecting even the most minuscule scatterings of light in a way that made her gaze look full with shooting stars. She had taken her leather-shielded hand to hold in both of hers as she listened. It was the first time she could remember someone taking her hand simply to hold.
She said, here is what she knows of the storm: it is unrelenting, it is violent, it is hers.
In the time that has passed since that night the same things that have changed about the storm have changed for her and Laudna—which is to say, nothing at all.

Laudna is a children's librarian who loves doing story time, but unfortunately the kids find her more scary-scary than fun-scary. So it's very rare for her to be able to do that.
Imogen runs an outdoor school where schools in Jrusar send grades of children to learn about nature and get some learning done outside of a traditional classroom. Finding someone to lead a story time with the kids has been a bit difficult, so Imogen reaches out to the local public library.
This is a modern AU, so they don't have magic per se. This is generally going to be from Laudna's perspective, with a lil Imogen sprinkled in for flavour. I'll add more tags and characters as they become relevant.

It's all Laerryn's fault, really. Her first act as newly-appointed Architect Arcane had been to immediately reenchant her Sending ring so that only a handful of people could contact her, no matter the occasion. But her second act was to drag the Ring of Brass down into the labyrinth with her, muttering something about "glass too fragile to trust the guards with" and "wards that only Patia and I can oversee."
It's not like Patia isn't flattered by that last one, of course. She's just of the personal opinion that maybe the Ring - not a group of friends known for working seamlessly together at the best of times - shouldn't have been entrusted with the assembly of a stained-glass window at one o'clock in the godsdamned morning.

The barest hint of a grin, flickering across Antonia’s face. “Yes,” she teases, “you did introduce yourself before.”
“And you have a name tag,” Grace retorts.
The grin comes back, a little bolder, and Grace smiles, too. It’s fun to banter with Antonia when she’s not shaking in terror, and Grace feels the hope of it swell: something new, something fun, something normal.
