    Shen Qingqiu feels like a rat walking into a very obvious trap.

    He keeps his eyes on Qingyuan, making sure he doesn't make any sudden movements. Alpha's ruts tend to lead them to be aggressive and unpredictable. Shen Qingqiu crouches before the man, taking in his dishevelled appearance.

    "How long?" Shen Qingqiu says, taking one of Yue Qingyuan's wrists to force his own qi through. While his meridians are knotted and tangled, Qingyuan's are too smooth and give barely anything for his qi to grasp onto. Qingyuan stares blankly at Shen Qingqiu for a moment before speaking.

    "I can remember up to midday, I'm assuming since then." Qingyuan mumbles, because though he's not exactly deviating anymore, he's still in rut, and it's truly taking so much out of him to not pounce on Shen Qingqiu, who smells much much sweeter than he has ever before. "Qingqiu smells nice"

    Shen Yuan has been dealt a rough hand at the beginning of his life. Then he gets sort of adopted by Shen Qingqiu, who desperately needs someone to help smooth out his interpersonal relationships. Thankfully, Shen Yuan is awesome at understanding people and what they want!

    Shen Qingqiu can't decide if he regrets claiming this chaos gremlin as his own or not, but now that Shen Yuan is here, he's never letting him go. He'll have to be pried out of Shen Qingqiu's cold, dead fingers first.

    Meanwhile, Luo Binghe is just caught up in the wake of both of them and trying not to be dragged under.

    (Or, a drama of errors with comedic moments, exploring the growing relationship between an unforgiving misanthrope with serious issues and a traumatized kid that just wants to teach him what family means (and maybe learn it, himself))

    People would find out immediately, he realised. He wouldn’t be able to ascend with the others anymore, wouldn’t be able to go on missions or use Xiu Ya any better than a mortal could.

    He could no longer practice inedia, or hell, even keep up with his disciples who already had half-formed golden cores. Who would listen to him now, who would respect him now? What good was a strategist who couldn’t keep up with the men he ordered around? What good was a teacher who couldn’t demonstrate anything he taught to his students?

    What good was a cultivator who couldn’t fucking cultivate?

    Shen Qingqiu manages to save Liu Qingge's life in the Lingxi Caves at the expense of his own cultivation and immortality. Now condemned to a short, brutish life as a mortal again, Shen Jiu chooses to leave it all behind and eke out a small living while he can, aware that death could be at his door any day now.

    After all, what else does he have to live for?
