Summary
Max lost her best friend, El. After the dust had settled, she learned she lost her home too. Her mom had left her, leaving her all alone. Until Joyce and Hopper took her in, welcoming her into her home.
Max may have lost El. But she found a new best friend in Will Byers. He understood her better than most. He didn’t judge her. More importantly, he was the only one close to her that she could gossip about cute guys with. Max needed that normality again. She needed to feel normal. So did Will.
When Max learns that a certain jock is now showing an interest in her new best friend, she plots. Nothing is going to get in the way of her boy’s love life. Especially not Mike Wheeler, the same boy who had already rejected Will once before. At least, that was the plan.

Summary
Falling in love with Will Byers was a gentle fall toward an inevitable destination one that Chance knew would arrive at some point if he didn't stray from the path. The point is that Will was so magnetic, his influence so heavy on Chance, that there were no promises to the Mother of God that held up against him.

Summary
Will takes a deep breath. Knocks once, twice, and then slides his key into the lock. The door opens, and the first thing Will sees is an open closet door, an NYU letterman jacket hanging from the hook with the number 22 on the back.
The second thing Will sees is standing shirtless in the middle of the room, dripping wet, biceps flexed as he lifts a chair midair. There, in all his Hawkins High Tigers glory, and apparently Will’s freshman year roommate, is Chance fucking Perez.
(Or: the post-canon NYU fix-it where Mike Wheeler can go fuck himself and Will Byers gets a happy ending.)

“I can’t keep going,” Mike cries, “I can’t keep going on like this. Like, pretending everything is okay, and I’m fine.”
Will just listens.
“I don’t understand. I don’t understand how everyone is just focusing on their lives, and I’m still stuck at that night, that night where El disappears. I don’t understand. I can’t stop thinking about it. I don’t understand how people—people like you just, I don’t know, move on.”
Will bit his lip. He almost wants to laugh and say, “I didn’t move on, Mike. I keep thinking about it, too. No one just knows I do, because I don’t have someone to tell it to.”
Instead, he says, “I’m sorry, Mike. It’s hard, I’m here for you.”

Will Byers is always there for everyone as they grieve for El. Yet, no one is there to hear him out, except for this random boy whom he somehow, against all odds, meets.
