Selfish. He was so selfish. To think he could ever indulge in something like this, someone like Trey, a human, when his lips were so stained with blood, his mouth so dreadfully contaminated.
There was so much he hadn’t told Trey, so much he’d kept to himself. And despite how often Jade used such a tactic, deception was not something he wished to use on Trey; the human didn’t deserve a partner who only knew how to lie, after all, even if he wanted Jade the same way Jade wanted him.
A part of him wished Trey would understand. Trey, who had been the only one to stay and listen to Jade’s rants, Trey, who still treated him like any other person, despite all the rumors around him—that same Trey, perhaps, would continue to stay if Jade told him now, would continue to kiss Jade until all the worries of his mind disappeared.
But Trey was still human, and their relationship was merely surface-level.

He tried to distract himself, assuring himself that they still had time to do whatever they wanted when they returned from the trip. They know about it, Jade thought. They’re just pretending not to in order to get on my nerves. They couldn’t have possibly forgotten.
But try as he might, the thoughts didn’t seem to line up with what was in front of him, the carefree attitudes of the others holding not even a single hint of remembrance, not even a single hint of awareness, and not a single hint of regard for Jade’s sudden silence.
Floyd’s voice struck Jade from behind, like a rock to his skull, bludgeoning him out of his thoughts.
“Ne, Jade, you’re coming with us too, right?”
Jade blinked, hesitating for just a second before smiling politely. “I shall think about it.”
Inside, he already knew he wouldn’t be coming.
Azul and Floyd go to the beach without Jade, and Jade thinks they've forgotten about the day they were supposed to spend together. He decides to go to the mountains alone to take his mind off of things. He doesn't think that Trey and Cater might want to tag along as well.

Cater was a boy of simple pleasures. Give him good lighting, breathtaking scenery, and the hottest trends to snap pics of, and he's content. His biggest ambition was to go viral on Magicam.
He wasn't anywhere near as ambitious as Azul Ashengrotto, notorious "benevolent" business man of Night Raven College. And yet, their ambitions aligned when a cashed out favor gives Cater the Magicam fame he wanted and a boom to Monstro Lounge. It leads to an arrangement that could very well be a match made in heaven.
In more ways than either could have expected.
