    Summary

Logan brings up the rear of the group more often than not. He dutifully takes station at the backs of his friends, rifle in tow. He hates how right it feels to have a gun back in his hands. He hates that the most substantial contribution he has to give his friends is intrinsically linked to the part of himself he despises most.

The back is where he belongs, out of sight—he’ll cover their trail, he'll do the dirty work. He'll hate every second of it, but he'll do it for them. He is already tainted, already filthy, already coated in human blood. Maybe that's why Logan tolerates the abuse of bullies like Barron—to test his own patience; to pay recompense for his sins. A part of him revels in the abuse, savoring his physical weakness.

Logan brings up the rear of the group more often than not, where no one's eyes fall on his back and peer into his soul. His friends don't know who Logan truly is—and with soul-crushing dread, he can't help but wonder if they'd trust him if they did.

The gun burns in his hands, but it is his burden to bear. His finger is always on the trigger; it is his offering to his friends.

Or, the ins and outs, and ups and downs of Logan Fields.
