Summary
Tommy takes one look at the wonderstruck expression on Evan's face after Tommy kisses him that first time and he knows he wants to take Evan apart under his hands like an engine and make him purr. He wants to slowly and carefully clean every rusty bolt Evan never knew he had and put him back together better than he found him.

Summary
Evan has never looked more radiant than he does when that medal is draped around his neck. Tommy often looks at Evan’s smiling face and thinks he looks like sunshine; feels something bright and life-affirming warm him from the inside out at the sight of him. Tommy would fly into a thousand hurricanes if it made Evan smile like that again.
But the medal around Tommy’s own neck feels heavy and wrong. He’s being awarded a medal for bravery. Bravery. Tommy Kinard is being given a medal for being brave. At the 118 firehouse, in the same room as Captain Gerrard. It’s all a little too ironic for his taste.
Or:
Tommy has some trauma from his time in the closet that bubbles up at the medal ceremony. Buck helps him feel brave.Bookmarked by Jacaranda7

Summary
Buck is able to be very open like this. The intimacy soaks into his body and loosens his tongue. He can allow himself to be vulnerable. Tommy knows this by now, and whenever he needs some insight into Buck’s mind he’ll prompt him and just let him talk it out.
“Can we go back to your ‘ally’ comment for a minute?" Tommy asks. "From our first date. I just wanna know. What did you mean by that? I haven’t been able to get it out of my head. You were on a date with a man you were interested in. You had to have known you were more than an ally at that point.”
Or:
Tommy wants to understand Buck a little better. Buck is good at monologuing, and he's done a lot of self-reflection since their first date.

Summary
Tommy Kinard is dating Evan "Buck" Buckley. They're even going to a wedding together in a few weeks. Tommy's excited about this new relationship, if a little nervous. But Tommy has a good feeling about Evan, and he wants to see this through.
EXCERPT:
“Wait, so if you’re not here to hang out with Eddie, who are you hanging out with?” asked Hen.
Tommy.
Heard the thud of someone falling down from the firetruck. And there, on the floor, faceplanted and looking drained of all energy, was Evan Buckley.
“Evan?” asked Tommy.

Summary
Gerrard comes back. The 118 tries to adjust and Buck and Tommy accidently acquire a dog.
He leans on the door jamb and crosses his arms. "Evan, why do you have the dog from Air Bud with you?" He squints at the dog a little more closely. The dog strains against the leash, trying to say hello. "Actually, not Air Bud. Dug."
Evan blinks at him blankly. "What? Yes, it's a dog?"
He starts to explain, then shakes his head. Later. First, "Evan, why do you have a dog?"
