Summary
Let's get something straight before we begin: almost everything you have ever heard about the missing Count of Anvil is a lie. Most likely you believe I spent the final decade of the Third Era shacked up with a mistress and a litter of children wherever it is that faithless Colovian men go to hide from their heartbroken Colovian wives, but the truth is rarely that simple.
This story is the truth. Sort of.

Summary
He’s almost looking forward to either falling from the top of the Netherbrain into the River Chionthar, or watching it fall from a safe distance. It’ll be over, then! It’ll be done. He can go hide in the dark, forget this ever happened twice. Astarion can forget Tav. He can move on. Learn to love the dark again, or something.
Astarion wakes up in a pod on the Nautiloid.

Summary
He sees a red glint in the darkness and Astarion leaps up, nearly stumbling over his injured ankle.
He almost falls back into the hearth, his fingers catching himself on the mantle, his foot hitting something metal. He reaches down, fingers scrambling to grab the fire poker, holding it out in front of himself even as his hands shake.
“Master—” Astarion gasps, and what does he hope to do against him? He should have never picked up a weapon, never should have run in the first place—Cazador will make make him regret it, will break him in a way Astarion hadn’t even thought was possible—
The figure shifts and Astarion can’t breathe as it walks further into the room, now lit by the warmth of the fire.
It is not his master that Astarion sees.
(Or, Astarion escapes from his master. He finds a devil in the process.)
