    Trying to move forwards has been the story of James’ life since the beginning of the year. James is on a tightrope, balancing a chronic illness, his NEWT subjects, his friends, and their secrets. It's never easy, especially when his symptoms get in the way of everything he tries to do to move forwards. Nobody else his age seems to faint constantly. Hogwarts faces its own scars, continuing to reel from the attacks at the end of the summer term.
    He’s James Potter, yet he’s Prongs, he’s Fleamont and Euphemia’s son, he’s quidditch captain- though is he ever going to be enough- for Lily, or more importantly, for himself?

    This story can be read as a standalone, or as the sequel to "When the body betrays", which covers James' fifth year. Completed!

    “You are not broken,” Inko corrects quickly, her voice sure and firm, “You are absolutely perfect, Izuku. I’m sad because I know you’re going to have to be a fighter, like your father, and we hoped things would be easier for you.”
    “Dad’s not a fighter,” Izuku says, “Dad does paperwork. I beat him at rock-paper-scissors all the time.”
    “That’s true,” Inko laughs, “Dad is good at a lot of things, but he’s very bad at rock-paper-scissors.”
    “Mom?” Izuku asks, feeling very small, “Can I still be a hero?”
    “It’ll be hard,” Inko says, “But you’re clever and brave and kind. If you really want to, and you’re willing to put in the work, I think you can be a great hero.”

    “She’ll never claim me,” he whispered. Silena shook her head, eyes wild as she looked around for anyone who could be watching.

    “My mother doesn’t remember half of her children as it is,” she said with a note of bitterness. “If you do something to impress her, it won’t matter. Return the bolt in her name. She’ll claim you if you act the part. If you stay unclaimed then they'll figure out what you really are," she said, squeezing his hands tightly. Percy's heart sped up.

    "I - I don't know the first thing about Aphrodite-"

    "My mother was born of sea foam," Silena cut him off. "And if you're really who I think you are... you are the sea. You can pull this off," she said and touched his cheek. "Get the bolt. Survive," she said. Percy swallowed.

    "What if I can't act the part?" He asked. Silena's expression went blank for a moment. Slowly, she slipped off her bracelet and placed it in his hands.

    "If you're going to be one of us... you better learn."
