Summary
Essek waited too long to tell the Mighty Nein about his disability, of course. Part of him relished the simplicity of having friends who didn't know, who didn't look at him that way or jump to help him or stumble over their wording choices. He was just Essek, who floated everywhere because that was what Essek did.

“You would be cold initially, but I know how easily the idea of outraging your handlers could seduce you.” Caleb holds the nape of Essek’s neck and bites into his pulse. “You would be lonely, and hungry.” Caleb places another lush kiss right at his windpipe and adds, “How would you like me to be?”
Essek sighs as his eyes droop. What would have caught his eye during his courting years, separating a suitor after the Thelyss’ firstborn from the rest? Defiant? Direct? He thinks through Caleb’s distracting biting and settles on:
“Mean.”
