Green sparks behind her eyes again, her magic sung for a solid ten seconds before he released her hand.

“I can do this,” he insists, looking at Vanya, pale and unconscious, at the place where he imagines Ben to be. “I can do this. I’ll get it right. I promise,” and he’s not crying, he’d swear on his life that he’s not, but his eyes are wet. Cinders, maybe. Ash and hot air. He wipes the debris from his face to see them again before he goes. Their eyes are wide and white, their hands outstretched. He wonders if this is what they felt the last time, too, if he’d found their bodies frozen in fear or in despair. “I promise,” he swears again, and he takes one fateful step back.
_____At the end of season one, Five decides to go back to the day he first skipped to 2019 rather than take everyone with him, and somehow he succeeds. He has sixteen years to save Ben, help Vanya, avert the apocalypse, and ward off the Commission. He might even save the world.
