Shane’s eyes glazed over with tears as they stared into each others eyes. Ilya looked curious, worried, and fearful. “What is wrong? You’re so distressed, is not good.” Ilya’s accent thickened as his worry grew, English was always harder for him when he was emotional. Instead of speaking, Shane reached into his large hoodie pocket, lifting out the stick he had just spent ten minutes crying over before coming over. Ilya looked confused, but took the stick gently from Shane’s hands.

Shane and Ilya both play hockey at McGill University. Shane is an English Lit major with a Drama minor, and he's completely focused on getting his degree, getting recruited to play for the Metros, and saving as much money as he can through the university's tutoring program. Ilya is a Business major with an Economics minor. He doesn’t really care about school (heard “C’s get degrees” once and ran with it) but puts everything into hockey. A few weeks into the semester, Ilya is already failing his Canadian Literature class. Svetlana, who's in the same sorority as Rose, knows just the right person to help.
