Summary
It was determined, long before they ever even met each other, that they would become both partners and enemies. Cato and Clove, each single-minded and driven mad with the desire to win, spent much of their time together before the Games imagining the other's screams, looking forward to the honor of fighting side by side and then fighting amongst themselves for the honor of being labelled Victor. However, this year's Games don't follow their best laid plans. With these unpredictable changes, they'll have to adapt, and find that this world of beauty and slaughter dressed in glamor and championship is not so glorious as it seems.

While it’s all Kiara can do to stand in the middle of his room and not collapse, JJ seems to be feeling the exact opposite. He’s speaking like his brain is going a million miles per hour, like the adrenaline is still growing exponentially in his body.
Kiara doesn’t answer his question. Instead, she points to his dresser. The drawers are mostly open, sweats and cargo shorts and pajama pants spilling onto the floor.
“Can I borrow a shirt?”

The Aglaeca, the shroud, Odette, all things Nancy resolutely claims responsibility for and drags around with her like she carried the Wraith all those months. “How long do they normally last?”
He shrugs.
She tilts her head at him. “Want to crash at mine?”

The old station wagon is parked at the curb, Ace leaning against her hood; it’s a mostly sunny Thursday afternoon with a few swirling flurries catching on his hair and shoulders, as white and glittering as his smile. He’s holding up a piece of cardboard with her last name scrawled on it in black sharpie.
Nancy, laughing, drops her suitcase in the middle of the sidewalk and flings herself at him hard enough that he makes a tiny oof sound before folding her in his arms. He’s warm and smells like shampoo and Rebecca’s sugar cookies and she can’t seem to let go of his neck.
“Welcome home, Nancy Drew,” he whispers into her ear.
She just squeezes him tighter.
