Summary
It's the fourteenth century; the century of the apocalypse - there has already been famine, war, and plenty of death. The four horseman have been seen on the horizon, by those who have the sight. Oliver is a Captain in the American Expeditionary Force, part of one of the first American companies to make it over to France in the Autumn of 1917. He's only been in France for three weeks, and nothing could have prepared him for what he finds there; the trenches, the mud, the death, the noise, and the violence. Surely he is in hell.
Elio is a medic in the French army, having joined up as soon as he could after his eighteenth birthday. He'd wanted to do his part. He's been at the front and in support for over a year, and has seen friends and fellow soldiers die en masse. He thinks he is hardened to the horrors of war.
Both of them need something to remind that the entire world hasn't fallen into darkness, that there is light and hope to be found somewhere. When they are thrown together by circumstance, will they be able to find that hope in each other?
