Megumi’s head lifts, breathing labored, and his eyes shine with relief. He twitches like he’s going to try to move. “I—”
“Don’t move. It’s fine, you’re fine,” Satoru tells him, lurching forward on unsteady feet and fisting his hands into the shoulder of Megumi’s uniform. He grips too hard and tears into the fabric—Satoru forces his hands to relax, to land softer, and to press firmly against Megumi’s still-warm body. Still warm. Still alive. “You’re fine, we’re good. We’re going to Shoko, and you’ll be—you'll be okay.”
OR: Over the years, learning to output RCT has begun to feel like something of a lost cause. It’s Shoko’s thing, anyway. Satoru’s more of the point-and-obliterate kind of guy than the team healer. But sometimes… Shoko’s not there. And your kid is dying.

Satoru blinks at him with sleep in his eyes and Suguru mumbles. "I'm sorry. Have I woken you, love?"
Satoru smiles, boyish and slow and sleep-ridden. He could never hide how much he loves it when Suguru is soft to him. "No, it's okay." He says, quiet with sleep. "What's gotten into you?"
"Nothing."
"Must be something." Satoru mumbles, eyes slipping back closed. He always lingers in his sleep, always slow to leave their bed, the warmth that gathers there.

It's so early their alarms haven't rung yet. Suguru can't peel his hands and mouth away from his lover. They get carried away.

Summary
They went on every mission together, Satoru refusing to let the higher-ups send him out alone. They co-taught, because Suguru couldn’t always manage on his own, panic making his eyes unrecognizable some mornings, and his students knew to be gentle with him, something Satoru both loved and hated to see.
But they also knew that they could come to Suguru with questions Satoru had no patience for, practical matters and moral agonies, and he would never turn them away. Soft skills, Satoru called them, a little dismissively, because he never understood the point of softness unless it was Suguru he was soft with. Another way of putting this: that Suguru was, palpably, human in a way Satoru could never be.
On days like today, Suguru feels a little too human.
