Royal minister Hubert von Vestra lives solely for Edelgard, regent of Adrestia. He will do anything for her: kill for her, die for her, even bring her back from the clutches of death if he must. The distance he will go for her is tested when sinister enemies infiltrate the capital and force Edelgard to become their unwilling puppet. In order to rescue her, Hubert forms a bloody pact with none other than the vampire darklord Strahd von Zarovich.
When his undead patron comes to collect what he’s owed—a sacrifice Hubert had no right to give in the first place—Hubert realizes fate has played a most cruel joke on him.

Summary
Pericles of Chios may have saved his people by surrendering, but it's harder to remember why he'd done it when he's facing the prospect of being married off to a complete stranger from among the lords of Paros. The farce of the wedding games, with his hand as the prize, is bad enough — the lifetime of pain and humiliation he has to look forward to once he's married will be even worse.
Kephalos of Paros, a poor, scruffy lord of a few barren rocks and a few scruffy goats, has been in love with the prince of Chios nearly as long as he'd known what love meant. When the prince's wedding games are announced, he rapidly loses all hope of escaping with his heart intact.

Summary
The fire inside of him is a familial curse, one of his traitorous father's many sins, so graciously passed down through the Vestra bloodline for his son to bear in equal measure. But just as Hubert will divest himself of the man's sordid legacy, cut it off at the throat and let it die gasping, so too does he seek to kill the animal he's inherited.
It's a needy, hungry thing. As it should be, for Hubert has been starving it since his adolescence.
