Summary
She hit ‘call’ next to Frank’s name before she could let herself overthink it and reason her way out of it.
“Mel?” Frank answered the phone within the first few rings sounding sleepy and confused, which was fair considering it was four in the morning. With a rush of fondness Mel realized that the fact that he answered at all must mean he had her contact info saved in a way that would cause it to break through his Do Not Disturb settings he switched on at night. Of course he did.
“I—” Mel found that she couldn’t get out more than that, and suddenly she was terrified that Frank would think it was a pocket dial and hang up.
He didn’t though. Of course he didn’t.Or
Mel reaches a breaking point, and Frank is there to catch her.

Summary
They were friends.
And yeah, maybe the ring on his finger sort of burned when he looked at her sometimes, even though it was just for show, now.
It was just easier to let her keep thinking he was still married to Abby. Safer.
It raised less eyebrows about the nature of their friendship when the ring stayed on while he was at work, the weight on his finger reminding him not to say or do anything stupid.
It also made it a little less creepy when the pet names started slipping out.

Summary
Dr Melissa King had always been adverse to physical contact. More specifically, she despised it. But after a brutal 15 hour shift at the Pitt, the one thing she craves is the touch of Frank Langdon.
Dr Frank Langdon has attempted to assess and analyse the insanely intelligent mind of Dr Melissa king during every shift he’s worked with her, but the solid foundation she’s constructed to keep him out has unfortunately left him lost.
