Alas, to yearn for someone is among the most debilitating of afflictions.
It manifests as an insatiable longing: the urge to breathe in honor of another, to revere every conversation as though it were divine, to murmur their name beneath moonlight if only to memorize the shape of it on your tongue.
It is to press a hand against one’s chest and know the rhythm beneath is sustained by their existence alone, beating every syllable of their name in slurred, dreamlike speech. Drunk on a feeling wine could never deliver, an ecstasy forever grasped at with unbound ravenous palms.
It is both a joy and a torment. A wound that never heals. A fire that never fades.
Hua Cheng, the revered knight and unofficial ruler of Xianle, suffers from this very affliction, and seeks no cure.

Hua Cheng (or Wuming, as he is called when we first meet him) isn’t really interested in helping people—he just wants to get paid. If the situation with a client seems too complicated to deal with, he has no problem walking away. But for some reason he can’t explain, he feels compelled to help Xie Lian.
The two find themselves very quickly drawn to one another, but nothing in life is easy, especially when it comes to love.
Xie Lian is struggling to forget about the demise of the relationship that ruined his life—a struggle complicated by the fact that his ex may or may not be stalking him.
Meanwhile, Hua Cheng is busy running from a past that will soon catch up to him with deadly consequences.
