Little gray cog icons rotate with each other on a big blue translucent screen that sheds a tiny circle of light in the vast sea of darkness. The floor under them was black, as was the rest of their surroundings. There wasn't any lightsource other than the glowing panel, but despite that, she could see the two other writers clearly.

Bruce frowns and tries to focus his swimming vision. Something isn’t right. This isn’t the bright blue and red he’s been mentally preparing for. The material is all wrong and it feels scratchy brushing against his skin. Superman’s suit isn’t scratchy. It’s smooth and comforting to touch; whatever he’s touching isn’t. Instead of lunging at him, the monster stumbled, as it tried to stand, and Clark saw as a child's leg slipped out of a big black boot before tangling in a yellow belt, small, very childish hands trying and failing to catch it. And maybe… And maybe it wasn't a monster at all, because as Clark watched, transfixed, the kid - because it had to be a kid, he didn't seem to be older than Clark- face planted on the floor without making even a single noise.
