"Why do you think Remus has scars?” Sirius asked James later that evening, his voice gentle. He was propped up on his bed, twirling his signet ring in his fingers, his gray eyes stormy. He didn’t look at James. Peter and Remus were at the library and a heavy ache had settled in Sirius’s soul all day.
James huffed softly. “You know I don’t know,” he told him, slapping his socked foot gently when he passed by him, crawling into his own bed.
Their second year, Sirius is worried about Remus--noticing his scars are multiplying and is worried about the cause. He asks in a very bad way and Remus avoids them all for two weeks. It drives Sirius insane, wanting to help his friend and put a stop to whatever could be hurting him; whoever.

No, no, it was because if Ron didn’t manage to speak then Draco would find out from the Daily Prophet that Ron had died in a back alley after being hit by a curse from a Death Eater. If Ron didn’t somehow tell Harry the truth now, Draco would never know how he truly felt. Because Draco had made Ron swear to not tell his loved ones they were dating—not yet, not until Draco was ready. And Ron had agreed. But now, as he lay dying on a sidewalk in some random Muggle town, Ron rather wished he would’ve broken that particular promise.
When Ron doesn't return home from a mission as expected, Draco has to swallow his pride and figure out what happened to him.

Al is certain this is as it should be, except he remembers his sexual/romantic relationship with Sam while he was leaping, during which time Donna had made him swear not to tell Sam about her. Now that Sam's back, it's looking like he doesn't remember his relationship with Al, and Al is heartbroken, but can't bring himself to drive a wedge into the marital bliss that Sam and Donna seem to be having.
Pretty much nothing is as it seems when Al has a very strange dream.

This piece is a story-well-told, and can be enjoyed as such. On the other hand, if you spend time within the story there are larger allegories and sprinkles of magical realism.
The style and syntax make it ideal for reading aloud.
My Blind and VI clients enjoyed the piece for the beautifully wrought descriptions.
Good character follow through. Great dialog. -
