Summary
His grip on the knife tightens until the bones of his knuckles ache.
He should do it. He has to do it.
But all he can see is how small he looks. How tired.
All he can feel is how badly he wants to reach out instead—just to touch him, just to make sure he’s real. Not a memory. Not some cruel hallucination born of guilt and longing.
His hand lowers, only slightly.
His knees feel weak. His vision blurs, not from tears, but from something heavier. The kind of grief that doesn’t cry—it just sits, low in the ribs, thick and aching.
He needs to end it now. This version of Nightmare doesn’t even know what’s coming. There’s no malice in him yet. No corruption. No hatred.
Just a boy asleep beneath a tree that he used to call home.
It’s so easy. It would be a mercy.
And Dream can’t move.
Because no matter what he tells himself—about the stakes, the mission, the cost—when he looks down at his brother, all he sees is the child he failed to protect.
Dream’s mission was clear: assassinate Nightmare, erase the corruption before it ever took root. But standing in the past, blade in hand above Nightmare's throat, he faltered.

Summary
So clearly could he picture Kaeya growing plump and round with his pups. Not only in his stomach, but in all parts of him. Kaeya was not so cruel as to starve his own child, so he would no doubt gain some much needed weight as he ate more for them.
He would be forced to accept Diluc’s offers of help, not only with food, but with housing as well. Kaeya wouldn’t be stubborn enough to raise a child in a rundown apartment with three other roommates. At last, Kaeya would finally be safe and warm in Diluc’s family home, right where he belonged.
_____
Hardworking and stubborn to a fault, Diluc longs for a way to get Kaeya to take care of himself. When his health is compromised one too many times, the alpha decides to take matters into his own hands.

Summary
Because Master Crepus died on Diluc’s eighteenth birthday, and there had never been a more perfect opportunity.
Kaeya knew his big brother like he knew the back of his hand.
Kaeya has an intimate relationship with conflict; it lives deep in his bones, thick in his blood, forever present and impossible to forget. In the weeks following Diluc's eighteenth birthday, it dissolves into something far more oppressive: regret.
