Tobirama couldn't help but feel the press of panic against his rib cage like a bird about to take flight, couldn't help the way his mind felt so far away and disconnected. He just wanted the feeling of "wrong" he always felt, gone. (What if it never did?)
Some say healing is but a matter of time. Sometimes, however, time becomes lacking, for some wounds have festered for far too long and go far too deep. In a world where all the wrong roads have been taken, how many rights would it take to reach a better one?

“That four-year-old left us with an ungodly amount of paperwork while he goes off fucking with the space-time continuum! If that’s really Tobirama, then turn him back. He’s fucking us over by not doing his part of the work.”

One night, Tobirama was helping Kawarama sneak Itama out of his crib. The next morning, his brother had aged fifteen years and the rest of his family was gone. No one wants to tell him what has happened or when he can go home to his family again.

Summary
Even at the moment of the hiraishin's conception, Tobirama knew the dangers of meddling with the very threads that make up the fabric of existence. He knew that repeated usage only made it easier to traverse between the dimensions because the user became physically more susceptible to slipping through the cracks.
But knowing something is possible theoretically is very different from experiencing it for himself.
