Her eyes hardened. “There is no going back, Colin.” She folded her arms across her chest. “I never asked you to court me-”
“I know, I-”
“I have not finished!”
Colin gaped at her. Pen could be sharp in her witticisms, and he now knew she could be vindictive and cold when wounded. But he’d never seen her speak with such self-possession before. He bowed his head apologetically and gestured for her to continue.

An alternative S3 based on the synopsis. Aimed to have it completed before S3 was released but took too long. It was fully plotted but only half-written when the show was released, so occasional influence from the show has crept in but I try to minimise this. Probably now a bit of 'fix fic' (sort of) for those who wanted it to take longer to rebuild their relationship, more Colin perspective, a different placing of the Whistledown reveal, and some Colin and Pen against the world! :-)

What might have changed had Penelope told Colin privately that her cousin Marina Thompson was with child? Not an easy scandal from which to untangle himself without the public protection of Lady Whistledown’s society papers.
In the face of being threatened both legally and socially to see through his proposal to Marina, Colin just might embrace the adage that chaos creates the opportunities for change we need and instead offers a proposal, to marry Penelope instead.
Penelope tries her best to escape the engagement all the while working with the Bridgertons to track down Sir George Crane to make him pay for his crimes.
All is well until the moment Penelope walks down the aisle, content that she will find her freedom in this loveless marriage, Colin finally pays attention to the beating in his heart, the flutter of butterfly wings. What has he done?

“There will be no entertainment! No chase!” Penelope protested, panic steadily rising within her. “Colin-”
“Good day, Miss Penelope.” Colin smiled, familiar laughter and devilry dancing on his handsome face. She watched in mute outrage as he tipped his hat to her and strolled out her front door.
After his careless words ruined Penelope's prospects on the marriage mart, Colin is determined to do everything he can to restore her reputation and to find her a good match, even if it means pretending to court his best friend.
However, outside forces with a grudge against the Bridgertons inadvertently transforms a wallflower into the most coveted prize of the London Season of 1815.
