Summary
After Penelope falls out with Eloise over her popular gossip blog, all the Bridgertons cut contact with her. It's the worst thing that has ever happened to her, but after a few months of wallowing, Penelope moves to Scotland and buys a book shop and gets on with her life. It turns out she can live without the Bridgertons and she's happy enough with the new life she's cobbled together. No one knows anything about her here and that's how she likes it: complete and total separation from her life back in London and her old online persona.
That is, until she spots Colin Bridgerton at the coffee shop next door.

Her skin was an even more terrible shade of green, her body was only a sack of bones and her flesh had been torn so many times that—
“What are you saying?” he asked, voice rough. “Why are you saying something like that, Fae?”
Her lips pressed together, and the disgust returned to her features like muscle memory.
“It’s the first time I’m seeing this," her hand gestured vaguely toward her side, toward the uneven scar that cut across the soft plane of her ribs. “It’s hideous."
She didn’t notice Fiyero crossing the room until she could feel him — his warmth, his breath, the faint shift in the air.
“Elphaba,” he said softly, his voice like something sacred. “Nothing about you is hideous.”
