But Theo, sweet precious little Theo, he didn't deserve to feel any pain. And if Eddie had to use his own body as a shield to ensure this piece of Buck's heart got home unscathed, he would do it over and over again.

    Just let him be okay. Keep him safe, don't worry about me. It was the last thing Eddie thought before the ground fully fell away beneath them.

    But when Jee laughs at him trying to get his tongue to touch his nose, and Mara loops one of her arms through his to keep him from tossing the rest of his cup in the garbage, Eddie feels solid again.

    Maybe he likes yellow birthday cake ice cream after all.
