Achilles is Aristos Achaion, yet he isn't bred for war nor for violence. His hands are made for lyre strings, for plucking figs and digging into pomegranate, for pointing out stars and skipping stones on calm ponds. His hands are made for love, only wild in the throes of passion and gentle immediately after to reassure no harm was done.
Yes, those hands are kind, but they can kill. For him, Patroclus knows, they would.

Achilles tilts his chin up defiantly, in an effort to stare Patroclus down. He only succeeds in looking like a petulant child. “It is considered a great honour to be a therapon to a prince, you know.”
“Honour is meant to be earned, not handed out as if to a beggar, or a dog.”
Achilles’ nostrils flare, his green-gold eyes gleaming dangerously. “Such scorn from someone who was training to be a common footsoldier just this morning. Many of the boys back at the yard would beg for this chance.”
“Then you should have chosen one of them, perhaps." Patroclus glances down at the expensive chiton and his brand new arms, and hates how heavy and foreign they feel on him. “I didn’t ask for any of this.”
The last thing Patroclus wants is to become therapon to the Prince of Phthia. He had his fill of princelings back when he lived in Opus—hell, he used to be one himself. He doesn't need some stuck-up demigod to size him up and appoint him his glorified manservant. He'd much rather pass, thank you very much.
Achilles, however, is unlike any prince he's ever met.

Patroclus likes to insist that he only gets high because Achilles does, which always makes Achilles laugh and remind him that he only buys their weed half the time, and that Patroclus was the one who knew their dealer first. Patroclus inevitably gets grumpy, at which point Achilles will crawl over to him and kiss him until he gets ungrumpy. Then, of course, they'll finish the joint.

Patroclus blushed as he swore, with strong conviction, that he would absolutely not do that. No sir.
He knows better than that.
Or: Achilles is a threat and a menace. As they grow up together, Patroclus falls for him anyway.

Summary
Achilles is a brilliant painter. It was Patroclus who first suggested it to him, actually, back when they were boys, so he could channel his hyper-active imagination into something productive. He's stood behind Achilles, and watched as, over the years, shaky hands become steady, and pieces with potential become stunning compositions.
But there's one tiny problem.
Achilles has painted everything and everyone- except Patroclus. He's never, not once, painted Patroclus.
And it even though it shouldn't bother him, it does. It irks him for a reason he can't really explain. Because after all, they were best friends? Closer than best friends. Weren't they?
