Dan Heng’s foot hits the chair behind him, keeping him standing in place. The man stares down at him, his stature resembling that of the tales, his height too towering. But through the facade of confidence on his face, Dan Heng can see the wistful mourn beneath his eyes.
"Yinyue-Jun," his voice slips into a gentle whisper. "Have you ever wondered what life was like before the nightwalker?"
Dan Heng searches his eyes, slowly shaking his head.
The man hums. "And that is why you are lost."
Dan Heng blinks in confusion, unable to maintain eye contact. He tilts his gaze away for a second, a question on his tongue. But when he turns around, the yard is empty, and the slow chirp of the crickets is all he hears.
The people of Xilong have long been tormented by a beast—the nightwalker. But their own prince has his secrets, his hazy past unrecalled, lucid dreams that plague his sleep. It is only when a mysterious man appears below the moon that the truth comes to light.

“You should use the coupon yourself. I’ll go to the archives—”
In a flash, Stelle grabbed Dan Heng’s shoulders in a vice grip, her eyes twitching uncontrollably as she started pushing him toward the exit of the Express. “You need to go.”

Checking into a hotel with Blade had certainly not been on Dan Heng’s to-do list when he first stepped out onto Planarcadia, but with how often Trailblazing missions went awry, Dan Heng figured that this little detour was just par for the course.
Going off on his own to find Blade was reasonable…necessary, even.
Staying with Blade, even while he was resting for the day and in all likelihood would be doing little but sleeping?
Well. Not even Dan Heng could fully justify his choice in his head with reasons that sounded more logical rather than personal, though that did not stop him from trying.

Blade and Dan Heng are forced to share a hotel room and confront all the things left unsaid between them.

“Are you sure about that?” Her good humored voice did nothing to calm the warmth that was beginning to form in his stomach at the sight of the vampire. “I don't think he knows that.”

Blade's gaze does not leave Dan Heng's eyes, watching for the dragon's tells, those little reactions he's come to know across their encounters.
Dan Heng steps even closer, narrowing his eyes as he tilts his head up to keep his gaze locked with Blade's. "I think if you had to chase me, you would."

“That’s a poor financial decision” Caelus laughs, reaching out to bump a gloved fist against Dan Heng's“and a poor choice of words. First round on you after this is over?”
Dan Heng is about to call him a jackass when there’s the rumble of an engine approaching. Low and deep, like it’s vibrating through the blacktop under his scuffed up chucks. Something dark and dangerous that he feels before he hears and hears before he sees.
Whatever sound this was was the same their ancestors heard huddled in caves thousands of years ago, wolves at the edges of their fires unseen and waiting to feast. There is a predator in their midst, and everyone here is in danger of being eaten alive.
Dan Heng has to race this car.

[ The man who rises from the closest table to the thrones is younger than Dan Heng expected. He is tall and his dark eyes are hooded by even darker brows, his mouth set in a pin-straight line. His hair sits behind his head in a bun that spills out of its binds.
Their eyes catch for a heartbeat and Dan Heng averts his immediately, shifting them to his bare, dirty feet. In the corner of his eyes, the General approaches the display in the middle of the room. The plinth to the left of Dan Heng hosts a casket of gold and the one on the right holds a sword.
“Surely that sword,” he hears someone say.
“Oh, but last time he chose a sword too. He might take that bow there.”
Just as Dan Heng is beginning to feel a modicum of relief in thinking this man must prefer weapons, a shadow falls over him.
