If Kaveh followed orders, there would be no major cause for concern. Eventually, his wrist would fix itself and all would return to the status quo. He just figured it would be simpler and better for his body to get someone else to do his hair, and if Alhaitham struggled to braid for the first time in his life, that would be hilarious, too.
But the tightness manifesting in Alhaitham’s gut was far from apprehension towards braiding hair.

Summary
Kaveh has tried many times to fall in love. And just as many times, he's failed. Now, an upcoming festival may force him to admit to himself that he doesn't feel it - not the romantic kind, at least. And then there are his growing feelings for Alhaitham, which certainly aren't romantic, but aren't entirely platonic, either.
And Alhaitham? He just wants to be close to Kaveh, but that seems impossible when Kaveh keeps misinterpreting his gestures.

And despite that... Kaveh is… “Lovesick?”
Kaveh’s hands move to cover his face, palms muffling his words as he mutters, “It’s—not quite like that.”
“Well, the ‘sick’ aspect is accurate, at least.”
“No shit,” Kaveh snorts. “The ‘love’ component, though—it’s, uh—”
“You’re not in love?”
He coughs. “The greenhouse in my lungs begs to differ. I—it’s more that my body is mourning a love it knows can’t ever be requited.”
For all the negative feelings Alhaitham’s encountered over the past twelve hours, the sensation that creeps through him now is…
Unfamiliar.
Unknowable.
Despite all the languages he’s fluent in, Alhaitham is unable to conjure a word or phrase with which he can immediately label it. He just knows that whatever this feeling is, it’s unbelievably unpleasant. Like his body is stationary, yet his internal organs are plummeting into the Abyss.
“You love someone who doesn’t love you back?” he asks after a moment.
Kaveh has Hanahaki. That much is known. But who he loves, and whether Alhaitham will be able to save him, is up in the air.

Summary
Kaveh walked down the hallway that the hiring manager had previously instructed him to, quickly finding himself behind the counter of the main dining area. It was sparsely populated, which he supposed made sense considering the time. Two people appearing to be siblings sat at the counter, chatting with his new coworker as she poured them coffee. In the corner, there was a man sitting alone at a table, reading a newspaper with a cup of coffee sitting in front of him.
And then, in front of the main window, a particularly striking man sat alone in a booth. He also had a cup of coffee in front of him, and Kaveh watched as he sipped it without breaking his attention away from the book he was reading.
In which Kaveh, an exhausted grad student, starts working the night shift at a diner that he, as a human, probably shouldn't have been hired at. But then, how else was he supposed to meet the eternal (literally) love of his life?
