He sits in numb silence as the doctor tells him he'll never be able to use his quirk again. That his injuries will never heal properly, he fucked up. His parents aren't there, but they never really have been. Fatgum reaches across the bed and squeezes his hand. Regret flashing through the older man's eyes. Kirishima would race to assure him that it isn’t his fault, but he feels nothing. Just cold. He can't turn and comfort his mentor. He can hardly look at him.
"Are you sure there isn't anything we can do?" Fatgum asks the doctor quietly. A sad shake of a head seals the deal. Kirishima felt a hand on his shoulder.
"I'm sorry young man."
Kirishima is sorry too.
or Kirishima never recovers from his fight with Rappa. His body no longer support his quirk and on bad days his weight. He leaves UA and becomes a teacher in an elementary school. He feels lost and lonely until a certain hero steps back into his life.

"hah?" bakugou huffed, and his breath steamed up from his lips. shouto hummed. he stumbled a little bit, since he had jelly stuck in his knees, and bakugou hefted him upright with a rumbly grunt before he could face plant in the snow.
"i'd like you to teach me how to cook." shouto repeated, slower this time. bakugou's mouth creased at the corners, folded into a tiny frown.
he glanced briefly in shouto's direction. his brows were dark and crumpled in the middle, the way they got when he was confused.
"what the fuck..." bakugou mumbled, more to himself than to shouto. "why the hell do you want that?"
shouto hummed.
"i want to make mom smile." he said.
i want to be easy to love.
or, shouto wants his mom to love him like she used to, and bakugou doesn’t understand why shouto can’t see how damn loved he is already.
