Summary
The postcard is nondescript. Unoriginal in its design.
A lighthouse—his lighthouse—is sketched into the card with carefully crafted blue-gray pencil strokes. It warbles as he flips it over.
Scar’s glimmering eyes are set in Grian’s periphery, watching as he reads over the jagged penmanship someone has haphazardly scrawled across the entire back side, slanted and faded as if they hadn’t stolen enough time to write it.

All that you need can be found. Watch your toes.

Or…When a storm washes ashore an American Navy sailor from the future, Grian finds himself caught in a plot to rewrite history.
The strangest thing by far is the familiarity he finds in the sailor’s company. A man who should be impossible to know is suddenly the only recognizable thing between Grian’s unusual bouts of sea madness.

Summary
At first, he thinks the bird is simply ignoring the question, staring at him with a glazed over expression. It takes a deep, heaving breath and then tilts its head to one side. “You look like you’re about to eat me.”
“Would you be opposed?” Scar purrs, even as Grian shakes his head with a half-laugh, a blow of air through a cracked beak.
Grian grins, cruel and wicked, and suddenly the temple air is pointed and dangerous, as if waiting for a command. Behind his beak are relatively human-looking teeth, like the feathers are merely a dusty old costume pulled over human skin. His teeth are still vaguely sharp and if Scar messes up now, they will certainly find themselves lodged in the side of his neck, or worse: sinking into the recess of his mana reserves.
The threat is enticing. Scar’s blood roars in his ears.
Or: Scar is a magic-eating troublemaker Vex unable to keep his chompers to himself. He bites off more than he can chew when a tether of ancient magic pulls him into a community of vengeful curse-bearers and their comatose leader.

Avian Customs for the Young, the Dumb, and the Inbetween
The Complete Revised Instruction on Doing Things Right, Expanded“Wouldn’t the challenge be fun, Scar?”
She’s goading him, taunting, pulling him towards something promising, indiscernible to himself. She’s similar to Grian in that way. Her smile is sharp when she speaks. “Go big or go home, am I right?”
And Scar can tell she says it on purpose, he can see the smugness in the way her lips tilt up, he can see the satisfaction in her eyes. She knows she had him trapped before she even spoke.
He decides, quite easily, that if he is willing to do this for Grian, then he is also willing to do this for Pearl.
Or, Scar finds himself wrapped up in centuries-old customs that are much larger than himself. No one is surprised when he stumbles into love.

“Stop thinking,” Scar murmured into his ear, pushing his thumbs in deep circles on his lower back. “You never relax. It’s gonna get you killed.”
“I’m not the one who’s red right now,” Grian murmured back. His head got fuzzier with every breath Scar let out against his ear. “Maybe this is just your strategy to get my guard down so you can kill me.”
“Not you, Grian,” Scar answered back. He turned his head away, and Grian could feel the impression of his lips against his neck. Not kissing, not claiming, just there, waiting, like he wanted to. Needed to. But wouldn’t. “Never you.”

Or, the end is drawing near, and decisions must be made.

Summary
The man hovering over him leaned back, releasing Grian completely. Cold night air rushed in to fill the void.
“I guess it’s out in the open now,” the stranger hummed. “Shame. I wanted to avoid this.”
With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.
This man wasn’t a civilian, wasn’t even a hero.
“Hello, Doctor,” the villain mused. “You were quite the help today.”
