Surprisingly, Max sits back down and is the first to cave. "Fine. We'll do it."
"Wait, you're signing me up for this?" Mike interrupts. His hands flail to enunciate his point. "I didn't agree to anything."
"Well I'm in and I'm not doing it alone, so you're going down with me Wheeler."
"Plus, you may or may not have already been hired." Steve shrugs like this is something normal to say, and Mike has never hated three people on Earth more than he has now. This building is burning down, hopefully with all four of them in it, and Mike will gladly be the one to light the matches.

If Stranger Things had happened closer to present day, and El is still alive for long enough to dump Mike's ass. Oh, and Mike is beginning to realize he might care more about his best friend than your typical heterosexual teen. And on top of that, he's stuck working at Scoops-Ahoy during his gap year with none other than Max Mayfield, courtesy of Robin and Steve's incessant scheming.
Maybe Mike would've been better off dying as a heroic act in the final battle after all.
