Summary
Mirage was unusual by most vampire hunter standards, both in Europe and the United States. Perhaps the most damning reason was that he had no vendetta against vampires, really.
It was the first unspoken rule of vampire hunters. Don't ask how they got into the profession. From the Venators of St. Benedict, to the Vampirdzhiya, it was always a stupid question to ask because you'd never get an optimistic answer. At best they hunted vampires because someone they knew died to one and the worst of it was never disclosed. The answer was only seen through worn eyes and distant stares into the night.
But if you were to ask Mirage why he became a hunter, he'd simply laugh and tell you, "I serve the Djinn. And if the Djinn wants me to kill vampires, then it shall be done."

Summary
Mina hates how much of a loser Arin is. She hates how they dress, how they don't talk to anyone other than those stinky frogs, and how she doesn't really know enough about them to throw an insult at them that will actually hurt.
But after being partnered up with them for a report on ritual circles, Mina is going to have to learn to play nice if she doesn't want to fail the class.
