You handed Joel your heart, watched him cradle it in the palm of his hand, and then crush it.
Ten years later, the world has ended, but he reappears like a perfect storm in the last place you'd ever expect him to be. The girl he knew might be heartbroken when she sees him again. Might still harbor some sore feelings, but she'd welcome him and his brother as old friends and survivors. That girl was too young, and too sweet. Too pliable, too giving.
Unfortunately for Joel, that girl is dead.
