Summary
“I want to be blue, please.” Her voice feels slightly too high pitched as it leaves her throat, but no one else seems to notice. Nick is murmuring something into George’s ear, and for a moment Nancy panics, but whatever was said simply leads to George planting a soft kiss on the corner of his jaw. The open, uninhibited love for each other in their gaze makes Nancy’s stomach twist.
She pushes it away, focusing on the task at hand.

Day two rolls around with no update from Blackwood, and Nancy is pissed. This stupid case is ninety percent online sleuthing, which usually isn’t too hard when she has the proper resources. Her only resource right now is the god-forsaken dinosaur game Google Chrome is trying to soothe her with while her computer desperately searches for some kind of connection.

She flips her hair behind her shoulder and circles the rim of her glass with her finger, dragging her gaze over his body—quick enough so he notices, but not slow enough to seem creepy. She smirks. “They still kept you on after that? You must be pretty good at your job.”
He smiles, eyes sparkling as he gives her a similar once over, and heat bubbles in Nancy’s veins at the clear interest in his eyes. “Oh, I’m very good at it. One of my many talents.”

Summary
The old station wagon is parked at the curb, Ace leaning against her hood; it’s a mostly sunny Thursday afternoon with a few swirling flurries catching on his hair and shoulders, as white and glittering as his smile. He’s holding up a piece of cardboard with her last name scrawled on it in black sharpie.
Nancy, laughing, drops her suitcase in the middle of the sidewalk and flings herself at him hard enough that he makes a tiny oof sound before folding her in his arms. He’s warm and smells like shampoo and Rebecca’s sugar cookies and she can’t seem to let go of his neck.
“Welcome home, Nancy Drew,” he whispers into her ear.
She just squeezes him tighter.

When Nancy returns home for the holidays after her first semester at college, she and Ace venture down the road not taken.
