Summary
jiraiya never returns from rain, convinced that nagato is the boy from the toad's prophecy, and determined to aid him in bringing peace to the world - through any means.
orochimaru turns his back on konoha, when sarutobi fails to protect him from danzo's machinations, and only the wealth of information and battle-ready orphans he supplies keep his name off the nukenin registers.
he returns to warn sarutobi that something big will happen during the chuunin exams, and has every intention of leaving, but instead gets roped into adopting yet another child, saving the village, and hunting down both his former teammates - one of them specifically for the purpose of taking up the hokage mantle he once coveted.
also known as the "orochimaru has a no god very bad day, and then consistently worse days after, but it's all good because he teaches naruto how to do the creepy tongue thing".
