“I lost you!” Xie Lian shouted. “You vanished! You saved me and then acted like I didn’t matter - like touching me was the worst mistake you’d ever made.”
The air between them pulsed. Hot. Fragile. Charged.
Hua Cheng’s mouth parted, breath harsh in the quiet.

Summary
Xie Lian read through documents while sipping from a porcelain cup. A loose strand of hair fell into his face; he didn’t bother tucking it away. His robe hung open at the throat, a little carelessly, the way one dresses when not expecting to be seen.
Hua Cheng sat at the end of the table, flipping lazily through a trade manifest. He wasn’t reading it.
He was watching Xie Lian. Not openly, just in glimpses. Like the sight of him was…unsettling, in a way that meant too much.
A servant arrived with a tray of fresh fruit.
As she bowed, her eyes drifted, just slightly, toward the prince’s exposed neck.
She didn't look long, but it was long enough. Xie Lian didn’t notice - Hua Cheng did.
The look. The subtle dilation of scent. The barest flicker of curiosity. His jaw tightened.
“Leave it on the table.” He said, voice neutral.
The servant blinked. “Of course, my lord.”
She bowed deeper and left quickly.
Xie Lian glanced up. “What was that?”
“Nothing.”
